Director of Admissions & Enrollment
Angela Thompson is a violinist, Suzuki educator, and music education leader with a passion for helping children develop their musical abilities, confidence, and lifelong love of music. Originally from Peru, Angela brings an international perspective and a wealth of experience to her work at Oak Park String Academy, where she serves as both a violin teacher and Director of Admissions & Enrollment.
Angela earned her bachelor’s degree in violin performance from the National Conservatory of Peru. As a performer, she has appeared as a soloist with the Cusco Symphony Orchestra and participated in master classes with internationally acclaimed violinists, including Ray Chen and Rachel Barton. Her background as a performer continues to inform her teaching and her commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians.
With 16 years of teaching experience, Angela has dedicated her career to creating meaningful musical experiences for children and families. In 2015, she co-founded the Capulitaki School of Music in Lima, Peru, which offers instruction in classical and traditional Latin American music to children of all ages. Her students have participated in music festivals, concerts, and institutes and have toured cities throughout Peru. Angela has also taught at festivals and institutes across Peru and served as the elected Violin Coordinator of the Suzuki Association of Peru from 2015 to 2017.
Angela has completed Suzuki teacher training through Book 8 and participated in enrichment courses with Nancy Lokken, Marilyn O’Boyle, Ann Montzka, Nancy Jackson, Fernando Piñero, and Carol Dallinger. She has also studied the Dalcroze and Kodály approaches to music education, broadening her perspective on how children learn and experience music. Her dedication to teaching and her contributions to Suzuki education were recognized with the Distinguished Young Teacher Award.
At Oak Park String Academy, Angela combines her experience as a performer, educator, and program leader to support both students and families. As Director of Admissions & Enrollment, she helps prospective families navigate the enrollment process and discover the right fit for their children within the OPSA community. She believes that a strong musical education extends beyond learning an instrument, helping children develop perseverance, independence, and a lasting appreciation for music.
Outside of teaching, Angela enjoys traveling, spending time with her cats, and exploring different styles of music. She also enjoys amateur theater and dance.
